Raising Children with Purpose: Parenting Through Obedience, Seasons, and Stewardship

“So David did as God commanded him...” – 1 Chronicles 14:16 (AMPC)

Parenting is one of the most sacred and significant roles entrusted to us by God. It requires more than love and provision—it demands discernment, obedience, and a deep understanding of God’s timing and purpose. Through biblical reflection, we find timeless wisdom to guide us in stewarding our children well. In this article, this week we draw lessons from three foundational scriptures that highlight obedience, purpose, and financial wellness in parenting.

1. Obedience Is Not Optional

“So David did as God commanded him...” – 1 Chronicles 14:1

David's success in battle was not because he relied on past strategies but because he returned to God for direction each time. This highlights a profound truth: God does not always repeat patterns, even if they previously worked. Parenting, likewise, requires fresh instruction from God for each child, because each child carries a unique blueprint.

No two children are the same—not even identical twins. Their destinies are different, and so must be our approach to raising them. As parents, we must not lean on assumptions or traditions. Instead, we are called to seek God earnestly for how to guide, correct, and nurture them in alignment with His design.

2. Understanding the Seasons of Parenting

“Of Issachar, men who had understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do...” – 1 Chronicles 12:32

Knowing your child’s purpose requires understanding the season you’re in. The sons of Issachar had discernment of the times and knew what action was appropriate. As parents, we too must discern the times in our children’s lives—when to nurture, when to release, when to teach, and when to listen.

Every season—infancy, childhood, teenage years, young adulthood—requires a different strategy. Misaligning actions with seasons is like planting during harvest; it hinders growth.

3. Stewarding Financial Wisdom for Future Generations

“...that you may do wisely and prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn.” – 1 Kings 2:3

David's counsel to Solomon was rooted in faithful obedience and wise stewardship. Financial wellness in parenting goes beyond budgeting or saving—it’s about teaching our children how to manage resources in a godly way. It also means modeling integrity, generosity, and trust in God's provision.

Our financial choices affect not only our lives but also shape our children’s future. Whether it's how we manage debt, model giving, or speak about money, we are planting seeds that will grow into their financial worldview.

Reflection for parents:

Am I asking God how to raise each of my children individually?

Am I following divine patterns or defaulting to cultural norms and past experiences?

Am I teaching my children to honor God with their finances?

Are my financial decisions helping or hindering their spiritual and economic growth.

✅What season is my child currently in?

✅Am I preparing them for the next stage, or keeping them stuck in the last.

A Final Word

Our children are not ours to own—they are God’s heritage, entrusted to us for a season. The call to parent them is a divine assignment that cannot be taken lightly. Each decision we make—whether spiritual, practical, or financial—either brings them closer to their destiny or leads them away from it.

Let us be like David, who sought God's command; like the sons of Issachar, who discerned the times; and like Solomon, who was instructed to walk wisely. Through obedience, discernment, and stewardship, we will raise a generation anchored in purpose.

Prayer for Parents

Lord, thank You for entrusting us with the gift of children. Help us to be obedient to Your voice, discerning of the seasons in their lives, and wise in stewarding the resources You have placed in our hands. May we not lean on our own understanding but seek Your guidance daily as we raise children for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Shalom. 🌿

A Higher Calling: Embracing Purpose

# Embracing Purpose: A Journey of Faith and Fulfillment You are not an accident! Every aspect of who I am is designed for a purpose. As Albert Einstein once said, "God doesn't play dice." God created me with intention, and only He can guide me to fulfill that purpose. I am alive today for a reason, and I seek to understand the role I am meant to play in the grand puzzle of life. Prayer  Lord, I don't want to miss out on the plan You have for me and end up going in circles. Show me where I am stagnating and how I should break camp and advance forward. I believe that I have all that I need to accomplish what I was created for. You have packaged everything for my purpose within me, and I don't need to look for it elsewhere. Your love is focused on me, and You have made everything for my enjoyment. #Action Points: 1. Reflect and Pray: Spend time in prayer and reflection, asking God to reveal areas where you might be stagnating and seeking His guidance on h...

What is life?

How We Define Life Determines Our Destiny Anchor Scripture  James 4:14 NKJV Whereas you do not know what will  happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.  What is life? I see life as a garden beaming with various elements, both valuable like fruits and vegetables and some not so valuable, like weeds and pests. Character is the seed planted in my garden. How I take care of it determines the fruit it will produce. The changes in the weather, the quality of soil, and even the frequency of rainfall play major roles in the growth or lack of growth in my character. Everything that happens in my garden is important. Any weed infestation will lower the quality of my yield, and how I respond to it will also affect the harvest. Every day is an important day in my garden; every second counts because growth happens behind the scenes. Every drop of water or fertilizer plays a significant role in the gar...

What Drives You?

What Drives You? Have you ever paused to ask yourself, “What drives me?” Why do you do what you do? Why is it important to you? Is it your personal choice to do it? Take a moment to reflect on these questions. Our past shapes us, but it doesn’t have to dictate our future. God is a God of second chances and even third chances. He hasn’t given up on us; He is still pursuing even the one sheep missing from the pen. As 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT) reminds us:  “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” Think about what truly motivates you. Is it a passion, a calling, or a sense of duty? Reflect on how God’s patience and grace have given you the opportunity to pursue your purpose. Embrace these second chances and move forward with renewed determination and faith. Action Point: This week, set aside some quiet time to journal about your motivations a...
